My Arthritic Knee

Over the past couple of years I have had my fair share of small injuries, being active it happens. About a year ago, after having my left knee repaired (slight meniscus tear) my right knee started giving me some problems. Nothing major, but enough to warrant getting looked at by my friend and doctor, Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Mike Shingles.

The diagnosis was arthritis.

Growing older is the greatest risk for developing arthritis according to the National Institute of Health, but it is not an inevitable consequence of our growing older. Since my ability to walk long distances was being severely affected, I wanted to do everything in my own power to naturally and holistically gain better odds of avoiding knee replacement. You can call that a "Compelling Why"!

Being overweight is one of the leading reasons for arthritis.

Our lifestyle had slowly morphed into not eating as well as we could. Sometimes in life things happen, ours was parental care giving. With that change came weight gain and joint pain, and enough was enough!

Time to tighten up the eating habits and try a simple body weight, arthritis test. Its working! My knee pain has noticeably decreased, no drugs, no additional supplements, frankly it really is amazing.

Adults with osteoarthritis who lost weight through a combination of diet and exercise over a period of 18 months reported less knee pain, notes a study in the September 2013 Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). Dropping just 10 percent of your body weight makes a difference. “The people who had the most improvement in pain and function were the ones who followed both a diet and exercise program” according to researcher Dr. Richard F. Loeser MD.
